Anne Hathaway Expertly Handles David Letterman's Tough Questions About Sleazy Ex

Oh, how we love awkward interviews with David Letterman!

Last night, Dave took a break from heckling McCain to ask Anne Hathaway about that ex-boyfriend of hers. You know, the dreamy one who recently pleaded guilty to federal charges of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy and was especially skilled at lying to Catholic Church officials...what a catch!

Dave asked her the hard things like “Did you have any hints there was a problem?” and “Is he in jail now?” And we gotta say, Anne impressed us. Rather than getting all pissy like Paris Hilton, she just awkwardly laughed along with him and gave sincere answers while trying to get back to the movie she was promoting—Rachel Getting Married.

So give the clip a go and see how many times you cringe for the poor girl. Guess this is just the kind of stuff you have to deal with when you're a smokin’ hot movie star with a felon for an ex.

R. Kelly Speaks: I Don't Like Anybody Illegal

Despite his trial and all that tribulation, R. Kelly remains a man of the people. The legal people, that is.

"I have some 19-year-old friends. But I don't like anybody illegal, if that's what we're talking about, underage," he said recently when asked during an interview with BET News whether he has a thing for teenage girls.

A half-hour special, featuring the R&B star's first public sit-down since being acquitted on child pornography charges in June, aired last night on the cable network.

While BET correspondent Toure didn't directly address the accusation that, nearly a decade ago, Kelly made a videotape of himself having sex with a then-13-year-old girl, he did ask the "Trapped in the Closet" purveyor—who continued to tour and make platinum-selling albums while being investigated by Chicago authorities for years—about his state of mind throughout the ordeal.

ABC Going All Out for Palin Interview

Charles Gibson, Sarah Palin ABC; AP Photo/Chris Miller

ABC is giving this get all it's got.

Liking how "record viewership" rolls off the tongue, the network is turning World News anchor Charles Gibson's upcoming trio of interviews with Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin into the basis for a special prime-time edition of 20/20 and will be doling out snippets to various other ABC News shows to best capitalize on America's newfound fascination with the 44-year-old Alaska governor.

Palin, whose acceptance address at the Republican National Convention last week was watched on TV by more than 37.2 million people, is likely to remain the focus of most water-cooler debating until we, at long last, go to the polls in November.

And don't the networks know it.

Letterman Willing to Go the Distance...and Beyond

David Letterman CBS

He may not have 10 hilarious reasons, but David Letterman really needn't offer any explanation for why he might want to keep doing the Late Show beyond the year and a half he has left on his contract.

"The way I feel now, I would like to go beyond 2010, not much beyond, but you know, enough to go beyond," the 61-year-old funnyman tells Rolling Stone in its new issue. "You always like to be able to excuse yourself on your own terms.

"If the network is happy with that, great. If they wanna make a change in 2010, you know, I'm fine with that, too."

Jennifer Lopez Talks Triathlon

New mom and Self’s Most Inspiring Woman of 2008 Jennifer Lopez was on Good Morning America today talking twins and triathlon training.

About her triathlon plans, she had this to say: “It actually came up when I was about 8 months pregnant and I was beached like a whale. I was watching TV and I saw a triathlon and I said, ‘You know what? I think I could do that, that would be great for me to do. Maybe I’ll do it this year.’ ”

And seven months later, she’s ready to swim, bike and run in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon this Sept. 14—for charity, of course.

Now on to the stuff we really care about—babies!

Matthew, Matthew, How Does Your Garden Grow?

Matthew McConaughey is giving new meaning to the term "fruit of one's loins."

The quirky hunk has saved the placenta from the birth of his son, Levi, and he says he's going to plant that membranous fetal envelope in his yard, according to McConaughey's recent interview with CNN's House Call With Dr. Sanjay Gupta, which will be televised in two parts Aug. 9 and Aug. 16.

"It's going to be in the orchards, and it's going to bear some wonderful fruit," the actor said, per a transcript of the very informative sit-down. "When I was in Australia, they had a placenta tree that was on the river...and all the placentas of all that tribe, all that clan, whatever aboriginal tribe that was, all the placentas went under that one tree and it was this huge behemoth of just health and strength.

"This tree was just growing taller and stronger above the rest of Mother Nature around it. It was gorgeous."

Beautiful sentiment, yes. Tribal and earthy and natural, yes. But we still recommend taking a pass on the fruit salad when you're partying at McConaughey's house.

Lucas Explains Why You Should Watch Star Wars TV

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Lucasfilm Ltd. All rights reserved. Used with permission.

Some wars just never end. No, not Iraq. We're talking about Star Wars. As long as there's a geek in an Imperial Storm Trooper costume, George Lucas will keep making more. After six movies (and an animated one in theaters this month), Lucas is bringing the galaxy far, far away to a television in your living room.

Down the road, Lucas is developing a live-action TV Star Wars series. First, however, there's the animated show, The Clone Wars, starting later this year on Cartoon Network. Honestly, do you need a Star Wars fix so bad you're going to watch a cartoon every week? George says yes.

"This is bigger, and we get to go more places," Lucas says from his ranch in Northern California. "We're allowed to go and do stories about clones. We get to know them and find out what they do for recreation and what Jabba the Hut's family is all about, do all kinds of things that don't have anything to do with the main character."

Indiana Jones and the Sequel of Doom?

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Paramount Pictures

Even before Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull made, like, a bajillion dollars, George Lucas was talking about a fifth film in the series. He's got Shia LaBeouf ready to take over, and he told the fine foreigners at Cannes that he's got an idea. But don't get too excited. Remember how long it took to get Crystal Skull?

"That sits on the shelf there as one of 50 projects that I have to deal with," Lucas admitted from the comfort of his own private ranch in Northern California. "It's very hard to come up with stories for that thing."

Cruise's Man Hands and Tomfoolery Steals Thunder

Tropic Thunder Merie Weismiller W, Dreamworks Pictures

There's not much room for Tom Cruise on the posters for Tropic Thunder, with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. in the way. But he steals the movie with his surprising turn as a fat, bald studio executive. Stiller, who also directed, gives Cruise full credit for shedding his studly image.

"His idea was for this character, and he had read the script," says Stiller. "He said, 'I want really big hands playing this guy.' I said, 'Really? Big hands?' He had these hands made, and then I said, 'Well, it'd be really cool if you were bald too.' Then we did this makeup test where he got bald."

Robert Downey Jr. Checks His Ego for Iron Man 2

Iron Man Paramount Pictures

Before Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. was a punch line for any celebrity rehab story. Now he's considered the mastermind of the greatest comic-book movie ever. Well, for a couple months until The Dark Knight opened.

Going into Iron Man 2, Downey is playing the humble card. "I also have to let go, because there's an aspect, particularly after the success of things, I noticed my narcissism got dialed up," said Downey while promoting his latest film, Tropic Thunder.
