Emmy 2008 Breakdown: The Kitchen Sink

Grey's Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo ABC/Karen Neal

Who won diddly-squat? Other than Diddy? Here are some more of Emmys' snubs, surprises—and surprising factoids. (Hint: High School Musical 2 didn't sing, but it didn't croak, either):

  • Since 2005, Grey's Anatomy has scored 29 nominations, but not a single one for Meredith Grey's Ellen Pompeo and her Dr. McDreamy, Patrick Dempsey.
  • Matthew Fox is the Ellen Pompeo of Lost. He's never, ever been nominated.
  • Actually, maybe Evangeline Lilly is the Ellen Pompeo of Lost. She's never, ever been nominated, either.
  • Brothers & Sister's Calista Flockhart is still awaiting her first post-Ally McBeal nomination.
  • For the first time ever, Desperate Housewives came up empty in both the lead and supporting actress categories.

Lost Finale Pushes Up Daisies, Ratings

Lost ABC

Lost is what it is.

Last night's two-hour season finale averaged a steady 12.2 million viewers, per Nielsen Media Research estimates. The show peaked in its coffin-revealing final half-hour, with 12.7 million.

The overall performance was on par with its strike-shortened season average (up 4 percent).

It was far off from last year's season finale (down 12 percent) and this year's season premiere (down 24 percent).

Noting that the number marked Lost's lowest-ever season finale is to point out something that's both true and virtually insignificant. Given the ongoing ratings erosion, nearly every show posts its lowest-ever season finale with each successive season.

(Spoilers ahead, consider yourselves warned.)

Lost Makes Good on Missing Episodes

Lost: Elizabeth Mitchell, Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly ABC / Mario Perez

Time may move wonky for those on the Island, but for those simply watching it, it'll march on as expected. And as contractually obligated.

ABC has confirmed that, before Lost moves on to that big hatch in the sky in 2010, the network will make good on the three episodes missed due to the writers' strike.

Prior to the start of this season, producers and the network hammered out an endgame, agreeing that Lost would continue for 48 episodes, or three seasons of 16 episodes each.

Even with the recently added second hour to this year's May 29 season finale, however, producers were still two eps shy. Not anymore.

"[Coproducer] Carlton [Cuse] and I did an interview yesterday, and they asked what about the two episodes that didn't get done this year, and we reiterated as we have in many interviews we will probably do 17 next year and 17 the following year," show overlord Damon Lindelof tells E! Online's Watch With Kristin TV blog.

"Poststrike we always said we would make up the ones that got dropped," Cuse added.

That settles that. If only those other numbers were as easy to decipher.

The Force Is With…Bush?

Star Wars Deal or No Deal Adam Taylor/NBC

Can President Bush possibly be more popular than Star Wars? Judging by last night's Deal or No Deal overall ratings: Yes.

A two-hour Chewbacca- and Carrie Fisher-graced episode of the NBC game show averaged 9.9 million viewers, per Nielsen Media Research estimates.

Last week, a President Bush-graced episode averaged 10.1 million for a 21st place finish in the Nielsen weekly rankings released today.

Bush, 61, is the widely unpopular commander in chief, who pulled a 69 percent disapproval rating in the latest USA Today/Gallup poll, per PollingReport.com.

Star Wars, 30, is the widely popular movie that spawned a multibillion-dollar franchise.

Matthew Fox's Life Lessons

Matthew Fox, Men's Health Magazine menshealth.com

In the new action flick Speed Racer, zooming into theaters May 9, Matthew Fox certainly holds his own on the track as the titular character's rival Racer X.

But does the actor have what it takes to really put the pedal to the metal?

Sure enough, in the latest Men's Health, Matthew is taken to task to see if the real-life novice can master the race-car prowess he so eloquently displays on screen.

In doing so, the Lost star also digs pretty deep on a number of issues and, subsequently, reveals a lot about himself along the way: "My wife and I have very intense fights, but they're over in 10 minutes," says Matthew. "We don't hold on to stuff. Life's too short for that."
